In 1967, there was a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Bartow, a take-out-only location with a simple counter, consistent with how KFC operated nationally during that era. A vintage advertisement from that year promotes the convenience of KFC as a family meal, using the “finger-licking good” slogan, and depicting Colonel Sanders as the one serving the meal every day.

KFC in 1967

Store format: Most locations take-out only. They featured a walk-up counter with no indoor dining rooms, and customers took their meals home in red-and-white striped buckets.

Marketing: A 1967 ad, representative of the time, showed Colonel Sanders as the one doing the work of preparing and serving the chicken, positioning it as a convenient meal solution for busy families.

“Finger-licking good”: This popular slogan was used extensively in commercials to highlight the taste of the chicken, made with the secret recipe of “11 herbs and spices”.
